Laulhère

Laulhère is one of the oldest French houses dedicated to beret manufacturing. Its history dates back to 1792, in Oloron-Sainte-Marie, at the foot of the Pyrenees, and beret production began in 1840, when Lucien Laulhère continued the family business. Since then, the savoir-faire has been passed down from generation to generation.

Today, Laulhère continues to manufacture its berets in the historic workshops of Oloron-Sainte-Marie and is the last French beret factory still in operation. The house preserves rare savoir-faire while seeking to adapt its product to the present.

The choice of materials is an essential part of this story. From the very beginning, Laulhère has paid particular attention to merino wool, selecting high-quality materials. Manufacturing goes through several stages, and each beret is accompanied by experienced artisans. Some techniques are performed with machines developed by the house itself to accurately reproduce traditional gestures.

It is precisely this combination of tradition and modernity that makes Laulhère interesting. The beret remains a very French symbol but has long ceased to belong only to one era or a specific style. It can be classic, unexpected, elegant, or casual, depending on who wears it. Laulhère itself describes the beret as a piece that accompanies a person throughout life and gains meaning through the wearer.

I particularly like that such a recognizable object as the beret can completely change its personality depending on who wears it. And I like the idea of bringing to Bah Oui a piece that so well represents French savoir-faire, but that can be worn in a very personal way.
