Collection: Bonhomme

Another unique brand in the Bah Oui collection: Bonhomme, which stands out for the combination of design, quality, and a truly singular history. It was precisely this connection between heritage, creativity, and authenticity that led me to select it for our collection.

Created in France in 2016, Bonhomme is inspired by a true story from World War II. During the conflict, Christopher Clayton Hutton, a member of MI-9 and an RAF pilot, developed maps printed on silk scarves, easy to fold and hide, that helped Allied pilots escape safely without compromising military information. This remarkable idea gave rise to the iconic "escape scarves," reinterpreted by the brand for today.

The name Bonhomme has another origin: it pays homage to Emmanuel Alphonse Bonhomme, whose 19th-century sketchbooks and paintings continue to inspire the brand's creative identity. The very meaning of the word bonhomme — "fellow" or "good man" — reflects the essence of these scarves, designed to accompany the wearer, whether in a casual look or a more elegant occasion.

Cartography has become one of Bonhomme's signatures. The scarves can represent regions, cities, coastlines, or ancient territories and function simultaneously as accessories and as small maps that we can carry with us. The brand also develops new creations and collaborations inspired by maps, places, and the imagination of travel. Some are produced in France, in small quantities, by workshops with the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label.

Why I chose Bonhomme for Bah Oui

Because I like the idea of wearing a scarf that is not just beautiful, but that carries with it a place, a story, and even the marks of another era. There's something very special about transforming an originally utilitarian object into an accessory that we can wear today.

And I also like the freedom a scarf allows: it can be worn in many ways, by very different people, and each one ends up giving it a new story.

At Bah Oui, I gathered a selection of the most emblematic Bonhomme scarves, with prints inspired by historical war maps and their recreations from the 1950s and 1960s. Pieces that unite history, design, and originality, making each scarf much more than a simple accessory.

A Bah Oui client introduced me to the brand and to Pierre, who now regularly sends me scarves.
